Anne is an excellent and clear speaker. The work the SPC is doing should be lauded. However, Anne's comment that biodegradable packages should not go to the landfill because of methane gas production is a red herring. Humanity isn't going to give up our food and paper waste which will make methane wherever it goes. For example; it seems that in the long run, a recycled paper milk carton with a PLA or other appropriate coating and soy ink is very sustainable when compared to a plastic milk jug which will deliver toxic plastic chemicals into the environment even after it disintegrates and has a half life longer than many radioactive materials. Leave it to the lawyers to split hairs and lie, but think about it, sustainable packages have existed for most of human history - we just don't see them now because they have already returned to the Earth.
