At a glance
Sun protection is on most people’s minds these days. Sunscreens fall into two categories—physical sunscreens, which form an opaque film on the skin preventing UV rays from penetrating the surface, and chemical sunscreens, which absorb UV rays. Physical sunscreens often employ zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide as active ingredients, while chemical sunscreens often utilize avobenzone or oxybenzone.

What's cool about the physical sunscreens is that they are immediately effective upon application (vs. chemical sunblocks where you have to wait 15 to 20 minutes before active ingredients take effect.) I tried the Goddess Garden 30 SPH sunscreen and love it. So do my daughters who put on the kid's version of their own volition - without my chasing after them! I appreciate the high concentration of organic ingredients - 70 percent - knowing pure minerals, natural herbs and oils are safe and effective. Sunblocks should prevent cancer - not cause it! Way to go Goddess Garden for creating a safe sunblock that gets absorbed right away with no residue, smells lightly of lavender, and also makes me feel like I'm nourishing my skin!

This is a really sad list, some of the sunscreens in this list contain some of the most toxic sunscreen ingredients available. Ful of chemical uv absorbers - they product hydroxyl ions, damage DNA, produce free radical, disrupt endocrine receptors. Are you kidding me? For a publication that is supposed to be health conscious, you have really missed the ball with regard to sunscreens and their safety.
