Spotlight on Hyland’s remedies for infants and children

Recent studies about the dangers of children’s cough and cold medicines have made parents reticent to give their tots any medication. Homeopathic remedies may be just the answer, says Mary Borneman, spokeswoman for Hyland’s, a Los Angeles-based pioneer in homeopathic products. “Parents don’t want to second guess and ask if a product is safe for their children,” she says. “We give that reassurance.”

Hyland’s, which sells 19 different children’s and baby products along with a full line of adult homeopathic remedies, was formed in 1903 by a trio of homeopathic pharmacists. “Pharmacists still play a significant role in our company—our [chief executive officer] is a trained pharmacist,” says Borneman. Hyland’s also provides 24/7 access to an on-call pharmacist for parents who have questions about homeopathic products.

Hyland’s 4Kids line is specifically geared toward children ages 2 to 12. It features small-grain tablets that instantly dissolve in kids’ mouths, taking away one of the biggest hassles about giving children medication. And unlike many conventional medications, Hyland’s products have no side effects, Borneman says.

Teething Tablets, which Hyland’s introduced in the 1940s, are still the company’s best-selling product. Borneman says Hyland’s hears from people who have been using the tablets since World War II. “We have a lot of grandparents who encourage their children to use them on their children.”

Hyland’s, Borneman says, is about safe products and accessible wisdom. “We have a passion for what we do and a very unique expertise in it.”

Teething Gel and Teething Tablets
Packed with ingredients to help teeth develop while relieving irritability, inflammation and sleeplessness. Children like the tablets so much that they’re often imbibed in greater amounts than they should be, says Borneman. The good news is that an average 10-pound baby would have to ingest eight bottles before seeing any adverse side effects.

Allergy Relief 4Kids
These remedies relieve both indoor and outdoor allergies, and don’t have the sleepy side effects that come with conventional allergy medicines.
