Girkout puts heart in business

Michael Girkout, president of Alvarado Street Bakery, received the Cliff Adler Heart in Business Award at Natural Products Expo East in Boston. The award was established in 1989 to honor a member of the industry who embodies the qualities Adler was admired for: integrity, humor, problem-solving, hard work and heart.

Alvarado’s CEO, Joseph Tuck, and marketing assistant Jennifer Baggett say that Girkout has worked at the bakery, a worker-owned co-op, for more than 20 years. His co-workers credit him for both the bakery’s growth and sustainability.
